Community Needs and Assets Related to Head Start Services in Racine County.pdf format. In 2010, Community Action of Racine/Kenosha had an interest in documenting the needs related to the Head Start program in Racine County. Head Start programs serve low-income children and children with disabilities. The Planning Council conducted research on the needs and assets within this program, pertaining to demographic, environment, health, education and other data to identify gaps in Head Start services in Racine County. Through focus groups organized by the Planning Council to learn more about what challenges people living in poverty face and what services are resources are available for them, it was discovered that the most significant needs facing Head Start families in Racine include a lack of employment opportunities, education and transportation. |

In the Spring of 2010, the Racine/Kenosha Community Action Agency took an interest in documenting the needs of the low-income individuals in their communities. The Planning Council carried out a range of community assessment activities to produce an overview of Racine County including examining secondary data sources, conducting key informant interviews and focus groups. Data and research covered categories such as geography, land use and the environment; demographics; economy and employment; transportation; housing; food security; early education and children under 5; school-aged youth and education; elderly and people with disabilities; and public health. Key informant interviews were held with community leaders in order to explore some of the barriers to addressing the needs of those living in poverty, see where there were gaps in current services and what else could be done to address issues of poverty. The focus groups were conducted with service providers and low-income residents to explore the challenges people in poverty face and what resources are available to them. All information was compiled into a Community Needs Assessment so that the Racine/Kenosha Community Action Agency can better meet the needs of low-income residents in Racine County. |

During the five-year period from 2003 to 2007, 2-1-1 @ IMPACT received over half a million calls. 2-1-1 @ IMPACT is a 24-hour community information and referral service. Who was calling? What were they calling about? Where were they calling from? What does 2-1-1 @ IMPACT mean to the community? These questions are answered in a Fall 2008 report, prepared by the Planning Council for 2-1-1.
