Long Range Plan to Reduce Homelessness
in Milwaukee County for 2000 To 2004

VI.               Next Steps

At its 2/23/00 meeting, the Homeless LRPC completed the first phase of its work, that is, the creation and adoption of a five-year plan for reducing homelessness in Milwaukee County.  The Action Plan, which includes measurable objectives and timelines, lays out an agenda for the community for the next several years.  The LRPC agreed to accept the responsibility for spearheading the implementation of the plan beginning in mid-2000.  The Steering Committee described in Section II will continue to direct the overall effort of the LRPC.

The approach that will be taken in the ensuing implementation phase will be to form volunteer implementation teams from among the existing LRPC membership and other members of the community as well as ask existing groups, e.g., the Emergency Shelter Task Force, to take responsibility for implementing portions of the Action Plan.  There will be four such teams whose chairpersons will sit on the Steering Committee to ensure that their efforts are coordinated.  The four groups will take responsibility for one of the following major groupings of objectives contained in the Action Plan:

1.      Housing Services

2.      Prevention & Support Services

3.      Systems Improvements

4.      Community Awareness

The Steering Committee will be responsible for coordinating the work of the implementation committees and will seek the resources to sustain their efforts.  Periodic updates of the Long Range Plan will also be the responsibility of the Steering Committee.
